The Hungarian national team played its last group match against Turkey on Wednesday night. Hungary qualified to the European Championships next year a week ago following the win over Iceland. At stake in the Nations League meeting against the Turks was whether the national team would make it to the "A" League or stay in the "B". For the Hungarians, the formula was extremely simple: Hungary needed to win while hoping that Serbia came out on top in their game with Russia.

There were four Vidi players in the starting eleven chosen by Marco Rossi: Dibusz - Fiola, Lang, Szalai - Nego, Nagy, Kalmár, Sigér, Hangya - Nikolics, Könyves. Hungary lined-up with four Vidi players back in October against Bulgaria. The game kicked off with Calhanoglu hitting his 30 meters free kick into the hands of keeper Dibusz. At the other end, Hangya's pass ended with Nikolic shooting from 18 meters but the Turkish keeper managed to save it. A Kalmar effort from 23 meters out also flew past the top left corner as the action continued in the early exchanges. 

Nego went down the right on 25 minutes before sending the ball into the middle for Konyves, who just failed to connect with it. Hungary were playing the better football in the first half. The score was 0-0 when the news came over from Belgrade that Serbia had beaten Russia 4-0. This meant that Hungary topped the group table at half time. 

The second half started with a big chance for Turkey: Tosun shooting at goal from 18 meters, but it was blocked by Szalai. The rebound fell to Tufan, who blasted over. Hungary took the lead on 57 minutes: Kevin Varga, who had come on in the break, shot low at goal from 13 meters, after Nikolic had fed him with a lovely ball. Keeper Gunok got down well to save it by the right post, but Siger was on hand to pounce from the rebound to score 1-0.

Turkey tried hard to get back in the game and Tufan shot just over after 69 minutes. A cross moments later from Varga on the right ended with Nego curling the ball just wide of the bottom right corner. A dangerous chance at the other end saw Dibusz pull off a good stop to deny Turuc. Nego did well to clear the danger in front of goal.

Hungary comfortably defended their lead in the final 15 minutes and even extended it on 95 minutes. A counter attack saw Varga sprint down the pitch before powerfully shooting into the top right corner to make it 2-0 on the night. Serbia's win against Russia meant that Turkey drop to League "C" while Hungary are promoted to be among the best in the A League.
