Mezokovesd away in the first leg of the Hungarian Cup semi-final

Vidi are back in action with a place in the Hungarian Cup final up for grabs.

After a break of more than two months, the Hungarian football season will continue from May 23. Our team will play in a Hungarian Cup match at the home of Mezőkövesd on Saturday at 6 p.m. Our opponent have been doing really well, not only in the cup, but also in the OTP league. Manager Attila Kuttor' side are in 3rd place in the table with 45 points.

In the Hungarian Cup last September, when the leading teams entered the cup competition, Mezőkövesd won 6-0 at the home of NB III side Hévíz. In the next round, the team from the Borsod played at the home of Sényő, also in the NB III, and the blue and yellows won 2-1. Next up were NB II side Győr ETO FC, Mezőkövesd won 3-2, followed by the match against Kaposvár, where they won both legs - 2-1 at home and 3-1 away against the current bottom side of the NB I. In the last round, they played against the Puskás Academy, where they won 1-0 in Felcsút, but in Mezőkövesd, the Felcsút side led for a long time, but in the 89th minute the equalising goal was scored and it meant Mezőkövesd reaching the semi-finals of the Hungarian Cup with 2-1 aggregate win.

After the break due to the Coronovirus pandemic, Mezőkövesd have already played in three friendly matches. The first against MTK, who have been promoted from the second division and will be returning to the top league played host, and although the team from the capital led 2-0 during the break, the home team finally managed to equalize and the match ended with a 2-2 draw. The goals from Mezőkövesd were scored by Zivzivadze and Besirovic in the 105th and 115th minutes.

Attila Kuttor's team played two further training matches against the NB I leaders FTC. One of those games was won 1-0 by Mezőkövesd, in a match that was settled by Pekár's free kick. In the other match a 1-1 draw resulted with Cseri scoring for the blue-yellows.

It is interesting that five talented young Hungarian players are preparing together with the senior team of Mezőkövesd, four of whom were given the opportunity to prove themselves in the friendly matches played against MTK and Ferencváros. Three of them have connections with Vidi, as László Varjas and Zoltán Varjas played for the youth teams of Vidi. Manager Attila Kuttor is well acquainted with the two young footballers, as they were key players of the Vidi U17 NB II championship team in the 2016/2017 season - and this team was then managed by Attila Kuttor. In addition to them, Torvund Alexander took part in a friendly for Mezőkövesd, and he was previously with the Vidi II NB III team.
