Roland Juhasz: I am sure that the team will show a new approach in the spring

We sat down to speak with the club captain following the end of the Spanish training camp and also look ahead to the end of his playing career.

- This year's winter training camp has quickly come to an end. The league season continues from the 25th January. What were the two weeks in Spain like and did you manage to complete all the work that had been planned?

Despite the fact that I do not like training camps, these two weeks went by quickly. That is thanks mainly to us training in good facilities and the weather was also perfect. As to how much of the work we managed to complete, we will see when the second half of the season kicks off. I can say on the whole that we have worked really hard on trying to fix those mistakes that Joan Carrillo wanted to correct. As a player I feel that it was a good training camp and that the manager will give his thoughts on the coaching side of things. We are ahead of a difficult period as there are several important games to come in the weeks ahead.

- We played against strong opponents in Spain. How would you sum up those matches?

I would start by saying that we scored many goals at the beginning of the autumn season. The goals dried up towards the end of the first half of the season. We practised plenty of attacking moves in the training camp but there was still a lack of goals in the friendly games. I still feel despite this that we will manage to step forward in attack. We need to remain patient as I feel many times that we want to finish off our moves too quickly. That results in us not being so precise. I hope that in two-three weeks, we will be talking about the many chances the team have been creating and the many goals we have scored in games.

- Your working once again with Joan Carrillo after a period of five years. Are the current training sessions different to the those back then?

One thing for certain is that we are focusing on football 24 hours a day and we cannot do anymore than that. He has developed over the last five years but he used to have different coaching sessions then. The same applies today with each session being different. If he can find mistakes in the team, he is very quick to spend time working to fix them. He wants us to be as effective as we can be in correcting them. The defence and the forwards have been having different training sessions. That allows us to practise defending and the forwards the attacking elements. Joan as a coach is very thorough and a maximalist. The team have quickly found the right middle ground.

- You mentioned that there are important games ahead of us. What Vidi do you think the supporters will see over the spring?

I am sure that the team will show a new approach and we want to be playing in a more attacking style. A new period is beginning and we need to make a good start to the spring while letting the past go. I hope that all of the players will have the correct amount of confidence as they step out onto the pitch. We want there to be a balanced and good performance over the spring. We want to do well in the league and also in the cup. The squad is strong enough to achieve good results over the spring.

- It is not a secret that this could be the final half year of your playing career as we kick off on Saturday against Honved. What thoughts do you have in your head? Do you ever think about no longer playing for the team or ever playing in this stadium?

That is a very interesting question as I have not dealt with this situation previously. However, when we played against DVTK in Miskolc recently, it did cross my mind that I may no longer play at the DVTK stadium as a professional footballer. We will only play against them at home over the spring. Many have asked if I am sure that I want to end my playing career and yes, my answer is yes. However, it is not in my mind at the moment that I have to do anything differently. So I am continuing to prepare as if I will continue my career over the summer. The feelings are sure to grow as April approaches as the final weeks and matches arrive. Everything has to come to an end once and although it still seems a while away, it really is quite close. I did not announce my international retirement from one day to the next. I gave it plenty of thought as to ending my career in the summer. It started to cross my mind after the cup final last season that my final season is approaching. I am sure that I will really miss professional football and I cannot really imagine just how much. Life goes on and I have new aims inside of me just as I have done over the whole of my playing career.
