Zoltan Kovacs: I saw good and stable football from the team

The Videoton director of football gave his thoughts on the pre-season training camp.

Four matches and four wins, seven goals scored and none conceded. We could say that it has been a promising start to the season for the team. Are you satisfied with the pre-season friendlies?

I usually say that you do not look at the results of friendly games, but the way we play, which is important. Also these games give us strength for the competitive matches. This is why we try our best in each pre-season to play against the hardest team possible. I feel that we managed to do this during our training camp now. These games saw us play well and with stability from the players and they were all very motivated. You could feel that all of the players, whether they are young or the more older ones, all want to prove themselves to the new coaching staff. This will help the club in the long term. It is a nice thing to have won all of our games without conceding a goal. This will help the confidence of the players, but the results themselves do not mean too much. We must not take too much into these wins as we will have to do the same in our important matches.

There were almost two training sessions daily at the training camp for the team. You could see from the side of the pitch just how seriously everyone was taking it.

We had several things that we practised during training, which played a part in how we played together with the individual motivation. This really does help us and is a good thing. There was plenty of competition during those elements in training, and this kind of work in training helps the players to prepare for the real matches.

Several youngsters, David Magda, Bendeguz Burka, Attila Mocsi, Bence Szabo and Bendeguz Bolla all travelled out with the squad to Austria. They all played in a game with the exception of Magda. What have you seen from them in recent days?

Their performances were more than convincing and positive looking forward. Bence Szabo was born in 1998, Attila Mocsi in 2000 and the others in 1999. They played with stability despite their age, and played confidently against senior professional players, whether it was in training or in a game. This should give hope to the Videoton supporters for the future.

Videoton will play their Europa League match against Balzan FC of Malta on the 29th June. What are you expecting from the team from the Q1 match?

We are taking our opponents very seriously and have prepared for the qualification games. We also watched the recent Balzan vs Lokomtiv Zagreb friendly match. We have looked at their friendly games at length with our videos. I think that the supporters will see from this just how seriously we are taking their team. We respect our opponents from Malta, but the aim is to make it through to the next round.
