The director of football spoke about the last few months.

– Seven friendly games, two training camps and the first team is ready for the spring season?
– The most important thing for many of the players that had either been injured or did not play for a while, was to go through the entire pre-season. Things went well from this point of view. It is true that Attila Fiola had to miss one week but he is now back in training. The coaching staff will make a decision on when he will return. The squad prepared in very good surroundings and excellent facilities. We also faced strong opponents in the friendly games that we played in. We will need to keep the tempo that we have been playing as we go into the start of the league season. You could see the improvement and development from one match to the next. I feel that we have stepped forward not only as a team but also as a group. The players believe in the target and also in each other. It is important to note that everyone remains modest and we must not look too far ahead, but concentrate on the next task in hand.
– Mirko Maric has arrived while players like Robert Feczesin and Filipe Oliveira have left. What was the reason behind them leaving the club?
– The two players parted with us on good terms and the door has not been closed behind them. Robert Feczesin's departure was good for all sides. Filipe Oliveira did not play as much as he would have wanted to in the first team during the autumn. It was clear that he wanted to play, which was confirmed by both Filipe and his agent. He chose to sign for a club in Cyprus, but it is no secret that we spoke about him returning to Vidi in some capacity after he finishes his playing career. He has very good international experience and it would be good to keep such a person within our hands.
– Did we try to look for Hungarian players to replace them?
– Of course we did and we looked at bringing in Hungarian forwards from both at home and abroad. We negotiated with the highest calibre footballers about them coming home to play for us, but we were not successful in this area. When we spoke to a player who was playing in Hungary, we were given transfer fees that were two or three times higher. It was not a question of finance but of actual principle. This is why we decided on bringing in Mirko.
– Are any further new arrivals expected?
– As far as the first team is concerned - no. The performances that they have shown and last summer's transfers have made us strong. We did have the chance to bring in players and there were plenty of offers. However, I feel that the blend between young and old is healthy in our squad. We could have brought in such experienced big name players that would have brought big news, or been useful to the club from a marketing point of view. But this club is thinking long term and this is why we decided not to proceed.
– Several young players arrived during the summer. They also had the chance to show what they could do at the training camps in the winter. How did they perform?
– We can be proud of the performances that they have shown since arriving and when they were chucked in at the deep end against very strong opposition. They worked well and their attitude has been good. They had the chance to see on a daily basis just how much they have to work to become successful footballers. We want to continue along this road and will look for other talented young players.
– Vidi have an important home game against Ujpest FC on Saturday as the spring season begins. What can the supporters look forward to over the Spring?
– I already pointed out during the autumn that the atmosphere in games at the Pancho Arena have been very positive. The backing of the supporters is very important for the team. I am sure that whether we play in Felcsut or in away games that many will come out to support the team. This will be crucial in our fight for the league title. Hopefully I will see many supporters at our first game.
