The Videoton Director of Football took time out to share his thoughts on pre-season.

"We headed to training camps in Turkey, Cyprus and Croatia as a player in the NBI. This was despite the fact that the weather in those countries was far milder in winter than in Hungary. There was never a case when at least one training session had to be postponed as the clouds opened up. The state of the pitch was also a cause for concern after a training session. We really wanted to avoid this for Vidi at the training camp. This was one of the main reasons for our decision to go to the Emirates. The players have been preparing really well from the first minute of pre-season with their attitude. It is also important that there should be some interesting programs to take them away a little bit from the daily routine. A training camp, however well it is organised, cannot see any side in the world train 24 hours daily. Fortunately Henning Berg is also in agreement in this area. It is why the decision was made to give the majority of Monday off for the players to go paint balling in the morning and then take a closer look at Dubai in the afternoon. It is also vital for me that during the pre-season period, Vidi should face the strongest opponents that we can. The manager also agrees with this thinking. The results during these friendly games are not the most crucial, as the most important is to develop."
"You can only develop if you face the strongest teams. I said at the end of the summer transfer window that the squad had been significantly strengthened. That has since been confirmed as we lead the division. The current squad did not have the chance to prepare together during the summer pre-season period. I am sure that the work being done now will make us stronger in the spring. We lifted the bar quite high in the summer in the transfers that were made. We do not want to go under this in the future. We can see that there is quite a lot of player movement in clubs around the NBI. We do not have to bring in new players at all costs. We have a very strong squad. Naturally if there is a chance to bring in a footballer that would meet our thinking, we would make the step" - commented Zoltan Kovacs to the clubs website.

The squad flew out on Tuesday to their Spanish base in Benidorm. They will stay there until the 30th January and play friendly games.
