Week 18 of the league season saw early afternoon matches end with Vasas and Honved confidently winning. That meant that Vidi kicked off their away match at Debrecen sitting in third place. The new Nagyerdei stadium has proved a lucky hunting ground lately after a long period without success at the old stadium.
There was a minutes silence before the game as a mark of respect for Brazilian side Chapecoense after the tragedy recently.
Both sides made errors and were not too precise while the quality of the near frozen pitch did not make things too easy for the players. The first chance of the game fell on 26 minutes when a cross from the wing deflected off Vinicius and into the path of Holman, who shot from several meters at goal, which produced a smart stop from keeper Kovacsik. Vittek then had a chance a minute later but his effort was blocked by Stopira who was well placed.
Half time came and went and Lazovics had the first try in the second period after 52 minutes. His shot was well stopped by Verpecz in the home goal. The rebound fell to Hadzic, but his shot was blocked by one of the defenders. Videoton took the lead 10 minutes later: a cross was not headed out well by the home defender and ball fell kindly to Hadzic, who headed the ball into space before powerfully blasting the ball home from 7 meters to make it (0-1).
The battles around the pitch dominated the game in the continuation with the Slovakian internation Robert Vittek always looking dangerous for the home side. He was a member of the Trabzonspor side back in 2012 that lost to Vidi in the Europa league. Vidi could have extended their lead through Scepovics in the final minute, but the supporters inside the stadium did not see any further goals.
The win saw Vidi climb back to 2nd in the table as they travel to Sopron next week to play Haladas in the final league game of the autumn season.

The two managers spoke to the media shortly after the final whistle.
