We sat down to speak at length with Vidi's latest signing. He spoke about his time with Debrecen and his happiness that he has quickly bonded in at his new club.

- You were born in Nyiregyhaza but it was with Debrecen that you started your playing career. Why did you not go to your local club at a young age?
My parents are from Debrecen and both were soldiers. Back at the time of my birth, they were posted to Nyiregyhaza, but we then moved back to Debrecen to be with the family. I was born in Nyiregyhaza, but my home has always been Debrecen.
- Why did you choose football?
I really have a lot to thank my parents for, as they saw that I was always with a ball at a young age. I was also happiest when there was a ball at my feet. I then joined the Debrecen Italian football school at the age of four. I also needed fortune and luck to finally make it as a footballer. My parents supports was the major part and they never tried to talk me out of it.
- Do you have any family members that you wish to follow in their footsteps?
No, but my father did play football, but not at a professional level. They still backed me fully despite that and I am sure that I could not have got to where I am without them. I tried several sports when I was young, from table tennis to basketball to tennis. I never had any doubts that football would be the sport for me. I can say that I have been planning to be a footballer since a young age.
- Was a straight route from the Debrecen youth system to the first division?
There were difficult periods. You need lots of work and talent to become a player, but you also need luck on the side. There were one or two youth coaches who released players who were slightly built. There is a good chance that I would not be sitting here now if that would have happened to me.
- Did the coaches always look at you as a midfielder?
No, I was a forward at first, right until the youth "B" and then when I made it up to the youth "A". Csaba Sandor was the coach and he switched me to the left wing. Left wing was always a position that they were lacking, but I still managed to score many goals from there, so I stayed there.
- The second division was soon followed by the first division. How do you remember back to this?
I am pleased looking back that I made it from the youth team to the second division side at Debrecen. Elemer Kondas was the manager then. I also remember that my first league game was memorable. It was in a game against Cegled, which was standing at 2-2, when I came on after 82 minutes. I then scored my first goal minutes later, which ended up being the winning goal. I then my debut in the first division in the following season. That was in a game against Vasas in May 2010, which we won 3-0. I was in the starting line-up in that game.
- You have won everything in Hungary with Debrecen over the last 5 years that a footballer can win. You are now jumping into a new challenge. Was it this that convinced you to make the change?
Yes, it is a new challenge that I am jumping into. I wanted to get to know new people as I had worked together with Elemer Kondas since the second division days. I have a lot to thank him for, as I made it all the way to the national team. I felt that the time was right to make a change. Since I have been here at Vidi, nothing has happened to make me feel that it was a bad decision to move. Naturally I will miss the town of Debrecen, my family and the friends I have there, but this is football.
- Was it a hard choice to make and did you spend long thinking about the move?
It was not easy to make the decision, and I did spend a lot of time thinking it over. I am 25 and had not experienced what it was like to change clubs. My father asked me several times whether I had really thought things through, but it really was a tough decision, but I do not regret it. I know that my parents, who always attended games at Debrecen, will feel different when they attend matches at the Nagyerdei stadium. This will especially be the case when I am in the opponents side.
- Who did you speak to in the period leading up to the transfer?
My family, wife and my agent and also two players. They were Jozsef Varga who is a friend, and also Rudolf Gergelly, who had earlier played for Vidi.
- You have been a Vidi player for a week and a half, you have met everyone during this period. What has your first impressions been?
I can only say positive things. There is a real family feeling within the team that I like. I feel that it is a secret to success if players are friends, and they fight for each other. It is important that everyone gives their maximum on and off the pitch. I experienced this with Debrecen, and I am pleased that there is a similar feeling at Vidi.
- You made your debut for Hungary against Faroe Islands last year. Are you disappointed that you did not make the squad for France, and that you did not get any call up's from the national team manager?
I have been called up to the national team three times. I sat on the bench against Romania and Northern Ireland, but I was in the starting team for the game against Faroe Islands. That was a very unlucky game for me. I made a bad move after 6 minutes and injured my ankle. That forced me to come off at half time. It later became clear that the injury was more serious. However, I still could have scored in that match, but the keeper managed to make a good save on his goal line. It would be really good to have played once and scored (laugh). I can honestly say that I am a little bit disappointed that I was not called up, but I remain very motivated. Bernd Storck has said that he continuously keeps his eye on my performances, so there will be a chance if I do well. The World Cup qualifiers begin in the autumn.
- What is your message to both the Videoton and Debrecen supporters?
It was very important to leave Debrecen on good terms. I can only say nice things about everyone and everything. I have plenty of good memories to take with me. I hope that when I return with another team, the Debrecen supporters will not whistle or boo me. They will understand that a change was good for my career. It gives me the chance to develop further. My message to the Videoton supporters is that I hope that they will see a player that they will quickly accept. A player that will always give his best in a Vidi shirt.
