Ferenc Horvath is the new manager of Videoton FC

The 42 year old will take charge for the remainder of the 2015/16 season.

Ferenc Horvath was confirmed as the new manager of Vidi on the 6th October. He will remain in charge for the 2015/16 season. The former Vidi favourite, who enjoyed a successful period as a player was most recently manager of second division side Szigetszentmiklos.

Ferenc Horvath was born on the 6th May 1973 in Budapest. He began his playing career with Bp Honved, before making his first division debut in the colours of Videoton FC in 1991. He remained at the Sostoi from 1991-96 and became a key figure for the red and blues. He made a total of 138 appearances scoring 54 goals. Horvath switched from Fehervar to Ferencvaros and had two successful season's with the Budapest club. He then moved abroad with Belgium side Genk the first port of call. Energie Cottbus was next and then a move to Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv. The tall striker then returned to Hungary and Ujpest in 2003, before another spell abroad in Spain with Almeria. Portuguese side Estoril Praia was next up in 2004. He made a further 7 league appearances for Videoton in 2004 before leaving to join Scottish side Livingstone. DVTK and then another period with Vidi in 2006-2007. There was still time in his lengthy career for a short spell with Papa and a move to Austria, where he played for SC Ostbahn and SV Markt ST Martin. It was with the latter club that he completed his playing career. Horvath played 32 times for Hungary scoring 11 goals in an eventful career.

His 19 years as a professional footballer saw him win the Belgium league title, cup winners and Super cup winner. He also picked up a cup final winners medal in Israel. Horvath was also a second division champion in Portugal. He helped Vidi to the 2006 Hungarian cup and also was part of the 2007 league cup winning team. His three periods with Vidi saw him play 171 first division games and score 63 goals.

His coaching career started with the youth team at Ferencvaros. Vecses was next up in 2010 and then 2011-2012 with Szigetszentmiklos. He became a first division manager at Kecskemet in 2012. Horvath later managed Paksi FC and Győri ETO. He was most recently in charge of second division club Szigetszentmiklos.

"On one hand it is a dream come true for me to be appointed as manager of Videoton FC. The club has given me a lot as a player and I would like to return some of that. My contract is for 7 months, which is a special situation. I would like to help the club as much as I can until next May. The squad here is made up of very good players and the task is to get the team playing as best as possible. That will hopefully lead to the team achieving the planned targets" - commented Ferenc Horvath to Vidi.hu.
