The plans for the new stadium were revealed by local Mayor Andras Cser-Palkovics at a press conference held on Thursday.

Szekesfehervar Mayor Andras Cser-Palkovics, together with vice Mayor Attila Meszaros held a press conference on Thursday morning. The topic was the reconstruction of the Sostoi stadium and the latest news regarding the project. The Mayor began by talking about the fact that the city had once again shown that it was a real sporting city. He also announced that the construction of the first American football pitch would also begin shortly.
The new Sostoi stadium will be a category 4 UEFA facility, which will also be able to host European Championship and World Cup qualifiers. European Championship group stage games will also be able to be played inside the new stadium.
The new 14,000 capacity stadium will also be able to host U19 and U21 final matches. The Mayor also added that the area surrounding the new stadium would also be renewed. Construction would run parallel with the rehabilitation of the conservation area at the Sostoi. A park would also be created in between the stadium and salt lake. Car parks would be renewed and new one's also built. They would not only serve the new stadium but also the cemeteries that are positioned close by. A club shop, Vidi Museum and supporters bar, together with a 500 capacity conference hall would also be constructed. Local roads, paths and pavements would also be improved in the coming year and a half.
Demolition of the current stadium will commence in December 2015. Building is planned to begin next April, with the project due to be handed over in June 2017. An important part of the demolition will be that
recyclable items will be pulled out and saved. One example of this are the 14,000 good quality plastic seats, which are currently within the stadium. These will be handed down to lower league football clubs to install on their terracing.
