The first European sports week started on Monday and will last until Sunday. The European Union have set targets that will help to promote and make sport more popular around the continent.

The event was opened by Hungarian EU minister Tibor Navracsics. He believes that the week of sport is a true European effort, which will include more than one hundred sporting events around the continent. The European sporting week has been backed by major sporting greats such as Clarence Seedorf, Steven Gerrard, Danish tennis star, Caroline Wozniack, and British marathon star Paulo Radcliffe.
