Istvan Kovacs: It was one of the best training camps

The young midfielder spoke about several things including his expectations for the second training camp, how much he follows the transfers and his relationship with his roommate who is one of the most experienced footballers in Roland Juhasz.

The first Spanish training camp has come to an end. How did you feel and how would you sum up the work that was completed?

- I felt good over the last two weeks. It is true that I really like to go to training camps, despite the fact that you are away from your family, loved one and the normal weekly routine for a long period. All we had to do over the last 14 days was focus on playing football. The club made sure that we could train in really good surroundings, so that our preparation can continue as best as possible. The atmosphere of the squad meant that it was really good to be there. I am looking forward already to the 6th February, when we travel back to Spain for another week and a half. It really was a very good training camp. Training sessions were also very good, and I cannot remember us doing the same exercise twice. The first part of pre-season was very varied. We played two friendly games, with the first one against the now usual lower league opponents. We achieved our aim in that match, which saw us mainly practice the attacking side of our game. The second game was against a team in top form, but we can be satisfied with things with the exception of the result. I felt that we played better than the German team in the first half. We could have settled the game in the second, with both Gyurcso and myself having good chances. We cannot draw many conclusions from friendly games, whether we win or lose. The most important is the way we play. The coaching staff goes over the game with serious analysis. If they find errors, we then discuss these, and try to fix them in training so that we do not do the same mistake again.

Two new players joined the squad. What is your opinion of them and did they manage to fit in?

- The personality of a player is very important. I can only say good things about them. Both of them are good players, so it is no surprise that they have joined us. We already knew Remi from the Europa League, and I remember back to him being a very good footballer, which he has confirmed in the last two weeks. We did not know about Mirko, but we have got to know a really good player over the last couple of weeks.

What will be the most important task in the second training camp?

- The first training session was more about the physical and tactical side of the game, while the second will focus on friendly matches. We will not rest on the fact that we comfortably lead the championship and are still in both cups. We know that we made errors in the first half of the season, so we are trying to eradicate those from our game to become even better. A person, especially a sportsman can never be satisfied and relax and lay back, as they are always capable of producing better performances. We will be working on this during February. The head coach told us that everyone will be starting with a clean slate, so it will not count on how they performed in the past. You cannot live in the past in football, and it all comes down to what your capable of doing. I am sure that there will be a big battle to get in to the starting eleven.

The transfer window is in full swing. How much have you been following the transfers involving the other first division teams?

- I can honestly say that I do not usually read the articles involving transfers, but there are those within the team who regularly follow the transfers, and it is a regular topic of discussion, so we are up to date. Fortunately, we are in such a situation where we really only need to focus on ourselves. That does mean that we will never underestimate any of our opponents.

Roland Juhasz was your roommate during the training camp, which is a little surprising, as it is usually the case of young players being together and the more experienced players sharing. You ended up with one of the most experienced players. How did you get on?

- Ever since I have been playing for Vidi, I have had several roommates during training camps. Some of them include players who no longer play for us. This was not the first time that Roland Juhasz has been my room mate. We were together for almost 30 days last year during the training camps, and we got on well together. You could say that we are now experienced roommates. Roland is a very meaningful and intelligent person who you can speak to about many things. He also has plenty of routine and life experience, so we talk a lot about many things like what to do after the playing career. I am still at the start of my playing career, so I am focusing long term on this, which Roland really does a lot to help me with, and I am very grateful to him for this.
