The head coach has given a lengthy interview about the first half of the season. His reaction to the great autumn performance, who could be the main rivals in the spring season, and we also asked Joan Carrillo about his plans for the festive period.

- Vidi will go in to the winter break with a convincing lead in the league, while still being in both the Hungarian and league cups. When the management of the club chose you during the summer, did you think back then that the team would produce such a good autumn season?
This was the main target for me that we can win the league title. It is also important besides this that everyone gives their maximum during training and in each game. I have a fantastic team, which has seen all of them perform really well. We have been strong both physically and mentally over the whole of the autumn. I feel that we need to continue down this route, which the coaching staff has set together. The team has improved over the last few months, but we will need to carry on improving in the future. I can only say the same that I said in the summer, I have one target, which is to win the league title!
- You have now been working in Hungary for 3 years and you know the other first division teams very well. Which sides do you think will be our main rivals for the league title over the spring season?
I would pick out MTK, as there is so much potential within that team. They have several young talented players in their side. I would place Paks and Ujpest in the same category. Naturally there is also Ferencvaros, Debrecen, DVTK and also Győr that I would count as serious rivals. We will need to really concentrate on these teams.
- We will have to play away against those mentioned clubs during the spring season. Just how difficult do you think the second half of the season will be?
Each game will be very difficult, while I would not pick out any one from them. We had tough matches during the autumn, and the same will apply over the spring. It is important to highlight that we have already scored 9 goals from our first two matches of spring against Papa and Dunaujvaros. We did not manage to score that many against them in our home games. I am only one person in this group and this team. The secret to success is the unity and the atmosphere that is present within the dressing room. I would really like to hang on to this atmosphere that we currently have in the dressing room, which means that I would not like to lose a single player from the current squad. I would like the brigade to remain together, which is the secret to success. Therefore, we can be more than the other sides and end up achieving our targets.
- How much has your notoriety both at home, and on the international stage increased the excellent performance of Vidi?
I would not pick out my own role as I do not believe that the team is doing so well primarily because of me. It is a fantastic thing that we have scored many goals and only conceded 6 goals in the league. The role of the entire coaching staff and the back office employees has played a part in us being successful, and they have all given a lot over a good autumn, which is now behind us. It is also important for me that the coaching staff motivates and strengthen each other. My main target is to make sure that the supporters can be proud of their team, and that they can give their backing to such a superb club. They are part of the Vidi family. We could not have achieved these results without them. I could pick out any one of the members of the coaching staff, as they each have their own special task, which contributes towards the success of the side. Coming back to the question, I do not know how much my notoriety has grown thanks to the team's success.
- What for you was the most memorable moment of the autumn?
I would not like to pick out a single moment. The most important for me is that the players and the attitude of the entire squad has developed. I am totally satisfied with this, and has even surpassed my original thoughts that I had for the team. I would also like to say that my family are very happy here in Hungary. We feel really good here. My family is the most important thing for me outside of football. It makes me really happy so see how happy they all feel living in this fantastic country.
- Several young players have been given the chance in both the Hungarian and league cups during the autumn season from the Vidi II and U21 sides. What is your opinion about them? Do you see any fantasy with them over the long term?
I have a very good opinion and I am satisfied with them. My main role for several years in Spain was to deal with the talented youngsters. I enjoyed it back then just as I am now when I work with young players. There were games when several players were away on international duty, and I remained calm, as I was sure that the young players would come in and replace those that were away. There were also cases where I could not play young players as they themselves were away with their international teams. I can see a fantasy in several players, but I would not like to pick out any names.
- What is your plan for the winter break, how will you spend the festive season?
I will travel home with my family to Barcelona on the 17th December. We cannot go any earlier as the school that my kids attend in Hungary lasts this long. I will not be inactive though, as I have several things to do over the next few days. Just as in each year, I will be spending the festive period relaxing and unwinding. Managers have a continuous pressure on them as they work, so it is important that a person relaxes and recharges as much as possible during this short period. I can only imagine this if I am with my family. There are also friends and family members that I have not been able to see since the summer, so it will be good to catch up with them. I will then fully concentrate when we return back in January, and focus fully on the work.
- If we are already talking about January, then the following question just has to be asked, which is that in what area can the team develop further during the winter pre-season? Can Vidi develop further or has the team already reached its maximum?
Pre-season is a very important period in the life of any team. We will prepare for the spring season both physically and tactically. The players, coaches and I develop every day. I can see the potential to develop further for the team, whether it is about the attacking side of our game or defending. There will also be new tactical elements, which we will have to practice in order to use these in our competitive games. I will need to know which players I can count on for the spring during the pre-season training camp. There are two possibilities. The first, which I would be most pleased about is if the current squad would remain together. I have been working with them for a long time now, so I know what I can count on with them, and what they are capable of. I also know who I can get more out of. It is possible that there will be some new arrivals. We will need to see who will come in and which players will leave the team. But we will see this in the future. I would like to thank the supporters again as I come to the end of this interview. They have fully backed us throughout the season, and their backing has played a big part of the success. I would like to thank them for the recent period, and I hope that they will be behind us in the future during games. They have an important part to play in the success! I would like to wish them all a Merry Christmas and prosperous new year! Come on Vidi!
