Nice tempo, good goals and a Videoton win

Videoton played the Puskas Academy in a friendly game at the Sostoi on Wednesday evening

With the Hungarian cup quarter-final game against Vac, not going ahead on Wednesday evening, Vidi moved quickly to organize a friendly match against the Puskas Academy. With Videoton progressing into the last four of the Hungiarian cup on a technicality, where they will join Debrecen, Győri ETO and Vasas, José Gomes' side were in need of a good run out, and 90 minutes of match action, having also seen Saturday's first leg tie postponed at Vac.

Vidi are due to travel to Honved on Sunday in the OTP league, so this friendly match proved the ideal tonic, with an entertaining match producing 6 goals, for those supporters who turned out at the Sostoi stadium. Manager Gomes would have been eager to get the Vac debacle out of the players minds and focused on the spring season ahead. It should also be noted that Videoton conducted themselves professionally, both on Saturday and on Wednesday, but in the end, events proved out of their hands and the Hungarian FA will now make their official decision in the very near future.

The Puskas Academy currently lead the second division, western section, and it was clear to those present exactly why. They have several talented youngsters, mixed up with experienced players, to provide a stern challenge to anyone they may come up against. Videoton went ahead after Torghelle converted from the penalty spot in the 6th minute. That was quickly cancelled out by Gajdos, who beat Tujvel in the Vidi goal, to bring the Academy side level. Miklos Benczes' side could have gone ahead after 22 minutes, following a Gajdos cross, which Daniel Nagy managed to hit, producing a good save by the Vidi keeper. Paraiba then shot at goal from a tight angle, taking a deflection off a defender on the way, which proved to deceive Somodi in the Puskas Academy goal. Once again, the club from Felcsut came back and drew level with a goal from Szakaly.

The 39th minute saw a nice ball from Vitor Gomes find Sandor Torghelle, who placed the ball in to the back of the net, but the assistant referee flagged for offside, so the score remained at 2-2 as the teams went in at the break. There were plenty of changes at half time from both managers, as Vidi came out of the blocks quicker in the second half. There was around 50 minutes on the clock when Hector went down the left, before crossing it into the middle, with Nikolics turning his marker before scoring a nice goal to make it 3-2. Vidi stepped things up and had more of the possession as the game went on. Substitute keeper Czirjek saw a strong shot from Toth go wide of the Academy post after 73 minutes. The keeper then did well to hold on to a Kovacs shot just two minutes later.

The nicest goal of the match was saved for the end. The 79th minute was marked with a splendid Nikolics volley from distance, following another good cross from the left by Hector. The strikers volley gave the keeper no chance, making the scoreline 4-2, which is how it ended.
