2012 September

A total of four league, two league cup and the first Europa league group stage match awaited Videoton in the month of September. Vidi produced a confident display on the banks of lake Balaton, winning 3-1 at lowly Siofok. A 1-1 draw at Kaposvar in the league cup was next as the games continued to come thick and fast. Another league cup fixture saw Papa beaten 2-0, before a home league match with Diosgyőr, which failed to produce any goals.

Videoton made their debut in the group stages of the Europa league on the 20th September. The Fehervar side travelled to Belgium but ended up losing 3-0. However, Vidi would go on to show their group rivals exactly why they had made it through to the group stages. Győri ETO arrived at the Sostoi stadium and took all three points back with them, which was quickly followed by a draw at the home of Paks. The games continued to come, giving the squad very little time to either prepare, or recover from the previous match. Videoton did produce more chances on goal in those games, but ended up picking up just one point from the available six.

2012 October

There was a total of NINE games in the month of October for Paulo Sousa and his team. It began with the arrival of Sporting Lisbon to the Sostoi stadium. It turned out to be one of the most memorable games for Videoton, as they swept aside the Portuguese side by a 3-0 scoreline. It is fair to say that Sporting were never in the game, and it ended up costing their manager, Sa Pinto, his job. The scoreline also meant that people around Europe were beginning to take note of the red and blues from Szekesfehervar. The media was full of Vidi's success in the days that followed.

Ferencvaros were the visitors to the Sostoi just three days after the big Europa league match. However, they escaped with maximum points, as the match survived a late thunder storm. Three consecutive wins in the league cup followed, as ZTE were beaten twice, with Kaposvar also losing in between. Videoton scored two goals and hit the woodwork twice at MTK, but still lost the game 3-2 a few days later. Although the real attention was still very much on the success, which the club had achieved in the Europa league.

October 25th resulted in Swiss side Basel also losing at the home of Videoton. It meant that after 3 group games, Vidi were in second place, which was a qualification position. Nikolics scored after just two minutes, while Marco Caneira added a second inside the first half. Basel did manage a late consolation goal, but the win went to Videoton, and the scenes of celebration that followed were enjoyed by the majority.

Videoton also beat Debrecen at home three days later, before wrapping up the month with a Hungarian cup home win over Haladas.
