Vidi secured a very good first leg result out here in Turkey against Trabzonspor. The 0-0 draw very much gives hope for next week's return leg at the Sostoi stadium, with Videoton just 90 minutes away from possible group stage football.

Videoton went into their most important match for several years in Turkey on Thursday evening. Paulo Sousa chose virtually his strongest side, as Vidi began the game in an all white strip. With a fanatical home support providing a great atmosphere, the reward on offer for the eventual winners of this two-legged affair is a place in the group stages of this season's Europa League. The game kicked off 5 minutes earlier than the advertised 20:00pm kick off, with plenty of niggling fouls from both sides. Scottish referee Norris had his hands full, constantly blowing his whistle in the opening exchanges. Striker Sandor Torghelle suffered an injury scare early on, but continued to play following treatment on the touchline.

Captain Gyorgy Sandor was seeing plenty of the ball in midfield, as he tried to link play from the back with the attacking players. Oliveira received a high ball from Mitrovics, but his header failed to cause any problems for the Turkish keeper. Trabzonspor had more of the ball in the first half hour of the match, but despite their possession, they were finding it hard to get in behind Caneira and Vinicius at the back. Vidi began to get their foot more into the game, gaining confidence and daring to push up and begin to work Trabzon's defenders.

Torghelle worked hard up front, as he tried to shake off Bamba, who was marking him tightly, while being supported by Walter and Oliveria. The home support began to show their frustration as things were not going the way they had liked. There was more tension evident as the first half neared it's end. Torghelle controlled a good ball from Sandor after 32 minutes, but the striker hit his effort well wide of the mark. Defender Caneira then entered referee Norris' notebook two minutes later. Trabzonspor were forced into a change in the 43rd minute, when Volkan Sen went off with an injury. The match official blew for half time, just as Vidi were enjoying more of the ball and keeping the Turkish side on the back foot.

The second half kicked off in similar fashion to the first, with both sides giving very little away. Stopira received an early booking for a challenge, while Caneira reacted well to clear the danger after 52 minutes. Caneira flicked on a Brachi cross but it failed to test the home keeper. Toth was the second Videoton player to be cautioned, with the referee officiating strictly. Captain Sandor then hit a long range effort from 30 meters, which flew over the crossbar after 65 minutes. Trabzonspor made all the early running and pressure, as they did in the first half, but midway through the second period, Vidi once again showed that they hadn't just come to Turkey to defend. Striker Nikolics came on for Torghelle after 73 minutes, and Videoton almost went ahead. Walter's shot was parried and Oliviera almost converted the rebound, but the ball fell unkindly to him, in what was Paulo Sousa's team's best chance. Altintop had Trabzonspor's best chance of the evening, but his half volley on 78 minutes went wide.

The game entered the final 10 minutes, in what was turning out to be a very satisfactory match for the Hungarian side. Vinicius then reacted very well to clear ahead of Volkan with a few minutes left. Volkan had a good shot in the 90th minute, but it was never going to cause Bozsovics problems in the Videoton goal. The match official added an extra 5 minutes of injury time, with Uros Nikolics also having a shot go over after 93 minutes. Walter then had a good left footed shot pushed out by the keeper, with Nikolics just failing to hit home the loose ball, in what was the final effort of a good match. Vidi now go back to the Sostoi stadium knowing that half of the work has been done.
