Vidi could win the league cup for the third time

Videoton travel to Kecskemet on Wednesday hoping to lift the league cup

The League cup is the third most prestigious cup in Hungarian football, after the OTP league and Hungarian cup. The league cup was first competed for back in 2007, and has been run over the last four years. This season saw a total of 20 sides running in the competition. This was made up of 16 first division clubs, with 4 second division sides (MTK, Mezokovesd, Gyirmot and Szomnok) also taking part. Vidi emerged group winners, having coming out on top over MTK, Honved and Gyirmot. Kecskemet also ended top of their group, picking up 13 points in group D.

A win on Wednesday would see the red and blues collect the league cup for the third time. They first won the cup back in season 2007/08, when they beat Debrecen at home by a single goal. The cup final back then was played over two legs, and Vidi then travelled to Debrecen, where they won 2-0, to win 3-0 on aggregate. The Fehervar side then repeated that success in the following season, 2008/09. This time the final was played over one game, and Vidi managed to beat Pecs 3-1! Vidi have already managed to beat Kecskemet on their own pitch, when they collected this season's Super cup final, which was Paulo Sousa's first competitive match in charge of his new Videoton side. There will be a full match report online, of the game shortly after the final whistle, complete with the views of Paulo Sousa.
