A first half Vasziljevic goal gave Videoton FC a single goal advantage going into Saturday's second leg away in Szombathely. The first leg of the Hungarian cup quarter finals saw a repeat of last season's game, but unlike then, when Vidi won 3-0 at home, followed up by a 3-1 away win, they will go into the second leg weekend tie, knowing that they have a fight on their hand. Paulo Sousa kept a fairly settled side, retaining Bozovic in goal, with Hector playing at left back alongside a settled defence. Nikolics played upfront with Alves rested on the bench as Vidi took the game to the visitors.

Brachi crossed on 4 minutes, which was headed on by a Haladas defender into the path of Walter, who shot wide. It was all Videoton for the opening 15 minutes, with Hector skillfully weaving his way through the Haladas defence after 13 minutes, before shooting straight at Rozsa. Brachi was seeing plenty of the ball and he did well to set up Vasziljevic, who headed just wide of the target. Vidi took the lead on 22 minutes after good work from Walter. He played in Vasziljevic who made no mistake to put Videoton ahead in the tie. Haladas did not sit back and tried to get back in to the match, without threatening the home goal. Sipos had the first effort on goal for the visitors but without any succes. Nikolics could have made it 2-0 on 31 minutes, but his shot went wide of the post.

Brachi hit a free kick onto the crossbar after 39 minutes, with the right back showing once again what a threat he can be at set pieces. The last talking point of the first half saw Evandro replace Gosztonyi a minute before the break. Haladas pushed their backline up at the start of the second half. Things took a twist on 55 minutes after Guzmics kicked out at Nikolics, which saw the referee pull out a straight red card. Vidi tried to take advantage of the situation and kill off the tie, but found the Haladas defence very hard to break down. It was a game of few chances, with Alves coming on to add options upfront.

In the end Videoton will take a single goal lead to Szombathely on Saturday, hoping to progress through to the semi-finals of the cup, with a place in Europe on offer. It was a tidy performance today against a well organized Haladas side. Vidi played the ball around well and had some good chances to extend their lead. There will be a full build up and match report for the second leg game on Saturday.
