The ex national team manager passes away at the age of 66
Bertalan Bicskei was born in 1944, going on to spend the majority of his career with Honved. He also had a spell at MTK from the age of thirty. Bicskei represented his country in one international, in a world cup qualifier between Hungary and Sweden in 1973. He then went on to manage the Hungarian youth side in the 1984 European championship in Russia. His side picked up the gold medal, which remains the last time Hungary won a competition. He had an impressive record as a manager going on to manage in several countries.
Bicskei went on to manage Honved and won the league with them in 1988. The talented manager repeated that fete a year later, earning him the chance to manage the Hungarian national side. He then moved abroad to manage in Korea, taking his new club to the domestic league title. Bicskei than moved to Swiss club Lucern, helping to take them into Europe. He returned in 1998 to manage the Hungarian national side, recording a record over the last 25 years, of remaining in that post the longest. his second spell lasted 4 years from 1998-2002. Bicskei also took charge of Videoton FC in 2003 for a short period.
Bertalan Bicskei passed away on Saturday evening at the young age of 66.
