Videoton produced a great performance to move 9 points clear

Gyorgy Mezey was a delighted manager as his Vidi side cruised to a 5-0 away win, on Saturday evening. A crowd of over 10,000 filled the Albert stadium, with the Fehervar fans turning out in good numbers to sing their favourite side to victory.

It was build as the game of the season, with league leaders Videoton making the journey to Budapest, to face second in the table, Ferencvaros. Vidi were backed in good numbers as the red and blue fans filled their enclosure, and never stopped singing. Gyorgy Mezey's side went into the game with a six points lead, which they have now extended to nine, following this five goal win. Added to that is the fact that Vidi enjoy a superior goal difference over the chasing pack, which is worth another point, and there is every reason to feel that this may just be the season when Videoton finally win their first league title.

The game began with each side trying to win their personal battles. The referee was often at the centre of things, as he made several bookings in the first half. Ferencvaros defender Balog, handled inside the box, and Alves saw his initial shot from the penalty spot, saved, but he reacted quickly to hit home the rebound. It was soon 2-0 following a free kick close to the corner flag. Gosztonyi crossed the ball into the centre and the unmarked Vasziljevics volleyed home from close range. Vidi went in at the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead, although Ferencvaros did have a header, which hit the post. Videoton did not take their foot of the pedal, making it 3-0, when Lencse met a cross in front of goal, to send the travelling supports wild. Ferencvaros seemed to drop their heads at that point, which only inspired Vidi to continue going forward. Marko Andics had a

free kick on the edge of the area, after he was brought down following a good run. He curled a nice shot in off the post, with the defensive wall opening up in front of him, and incredibly it was 4-0 away from home! There was still more to come as Polonkai lobbed the keeper to make it 5-0 after 79 minutes. Nikolics hit the bar following a bad back pass, which he intercepted. In the end Videoton sent out a strong message to the chasing pack that they will be very hard to stop, between now and the end of the season in May.

Vidi have a busy week ahead of them with the return leg of the Hungarian cup ahead of them on Tuesday, and a tough home game against current champions, Debrecen next weekend. A win in that match will more or less settle this season for the red and blues of Fehervar. Vidi were entertaining and exciting to watch at the Albert stadium, and it was very positive to see that they never gave up going forward, looking for the next goal. Star midfield player Akos Elek was forced to miss the match with a slight injury, which made this win even better.
