Mixed performances in the league

The Hungarian FA increased the first division by 2 clubs to take the number up to 18. The new season kicked off with an away match at MTK, which saw the Budapest club keep the points with a 2-0 win. A big 6-2 win over Vac followed and the next five games resulted in an unbeaten run. That came to an end against Vasas and a 1-0 loss. A battling and hard game with Ferencvaros did not go Vidi's way and the side lost 2-0. The end of September had Videoton in 10th place and the continuation did not bring improved results. Big defensive mistakes at Ujpest cost the red and blues the points in a 3-1 loss.

There were few wins to talk about but one of those came agaisnt ZTE. A Takacs goal meant a single goal win. The last game of autumn saw Honved come from behind to win 3-2.

Club enter the transfer market

Attila Horvath joined Vidi at the end of December. He had been in Austria with Austria Vienna and also at St Polten. He signed a deal until the 30th June 1999. Another player to move to Fehervar from Lithuania was defender Valdas Urbonas on a half year loan deal. Tamas Csordas and forward Istvan Varga made the step up from the youth team.

Free transfers were given to Denes Vaczi and defender Gabor Arki. Defender Janos Argyelan moved to Israel while midfielder Csorovics Nebojza and Almir Filipovics joined Siofok.

Defeats and change of manager

The opening game of the second half of the season was against title hopefuls MTK. It proved a frustrating game with the sending off of Tamas Peto and a 3-1 defeat. The following game also ended in defeat to Vac by a 1-0 scoreline. The club parted company with manager Slobodan Kusztudics and his assistant Dragan Szekulics days later. Things improved with 3 draws and 2 wins including a 5-0 win over Pecs, which saw Vidi score their 350th goal in the nb1. The unbeaten run ended at Ujpest and and another 3 draws was capped off with a 3-2 defeat to Siofok.
